(An abbreviated personal testimony – more on this later)

I am not an ordained minister, and I have never attended seminary or a Bible college. I am a physician, an eye surgeon, otherwise known as an ophthalmologist. As an MD, I have a strong background in science, especially biology. I have a strong background in rational scientific thought, including theories and proofs.

I am also a Christian, but I wasn’t raised as a Christian, and I never attended a Vacation Bible School nor was taught any Bible stories as a child. In fact, from an early age of 9 or 10, I was a self-proclaimed atheist, completely sold out on the theory of evolution and the big bang theory of the origin of the universe. All religions were no more than mythology to me, a historical cause of much pain and suffering. I knew there was no God, no future after death, and no power greater than the power of nature. The scientific theories fit together nicely and made sense, and I placed my faith in those.

I was a good and not a bad person, and later in college I identified with the term secular humanism. I needed no savior because I was not a bad person (at least not too bad). In reality, the whole concept of “savior” was foreign and unnecessary.

God had other plans for my life. While in medical school I experienced a powerful salvation experience, a Damascus Road experience, and I came face to face with Jesus, the living God that I had denied for most of my life. My eyes were opened to the reality of Jesus, I believed, and I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. I am a living example of a saved full-fledged atheist, Amen! What was so foreign and unimportant became everything.

To complete the picture, through Bible studies and educational work with organizations like Answers in Genesis, I fully denounced my prior belief in the theory of evolution, the big bang theory, and other secular worldviews. Now, I consider myself to be a Biblical Creationist (also known as a Young Earth Creationist). That is a 180 degree turn!
